About PS Store DB

Hey there, Maki here. I've been passionate about sales for the last 15 years and have always tracked PlayStation numbers. Not just tracking and following PlayStation either, I follow the business side too, the data and the insights, pretty regularly.

With how popular SteamDB is, I thought, why not build something like that for PlayStation? A single place that makes it easier to track how games chart across the PlayStation best sellers. At the same time I wanted to use my own background in marketing and UI/UX to build a clean looking interface, and bring in my ideas for how I track deals, how I like stats to be presented, and the way I prefer browsing the stores and the numbers.

So this is a fan project, and yeah.

Who runs it

I run PS Store DB alone. However, I have a team from my other startup who help and assist me as well. On the technical front, please note that I am not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by SIE or any other publisher.

What it tracks

Basically, we are tracking the best selling charts across multiple PlayStation Stores. We are also tracking stats like the rank, which the store sorts by revenue, the price, discounts and the review count of each game as well. And because of this data, we have also created 2 more sections. One is the deals pages, in our own style, so that you can get those deal filters which are not available on the PlayStation Store. And since we also track the public data of trophies, we are able to build customized profile hubs which tell your PlayStation story, which you can build.

Where the figures come from

The official figures are from Sony's and their own publishers' earnings reports. These are not estimates, and the methodology page covers the same.

How the figures are checked

We have internal mechanisms to check each and every figure. If we do find any mistakes, we definitely correct them as soon as we find them.

My background

Basically, I have studied computer science, but at the same time my entire career has been focused on data analytics and on the advertising side as well. I have worked as a lead strategist at a top advertising firm, and since leaving it I have started a business of my own, building a SaaS platform for advertisers, and also doing this project, PS Store DB.

How the game pages are written and kept up to date

The store data on a game page, which is the price, rank, discount and stars, is read from the PlayStation Store every 4 hours. Each game page also has a short journey and insights section, with insights from my own chart data for the phases it has been through, which are its preorder period, its launch month and the time after. Each of them is actually written once and dated, so you can see what it looked like at that time.
