About ps-store-db
I am Pranay, and ps-store-db is my one person project. I built it because I wanted to know one thing every day, what is actually selling on the PlayStation Store, and no one was writing it down. The store shows a best sellers list and then replaces it the next morning. I keep every day's list, in 20 countries, so the numbers stop disappearing.
What the site records
Every day the site reads the best sellers list in 20 PlayStation Stores, from the United States and Japan to India, Brazil and Saudi Arabia, and stores every position in the top 100 with the price, rating and review count at that moment. From that I build the pages: today's charts, the movers, the records, the game pages with their rank history, and the regional comparisons. Nothing on the site is a live scrape when you open it; it is the record.
Around the charts sit 3 other sources. Sony's monthly top downloads lists from the PlayStation Blog, every one since August 2015. Sony's quarterly business results for PlayStation, read from the supplements Sony publishes for investors, with every figure kept in Sony's own definitions. And the sales figures publishers state themselves, with the date and the source for each, and never an estimate from anyone else.
How I work
I write the analysis myself, in my own words, and I try to keep the data pages to the data. When a figure needs a definition, the definition is on the page, because most readers here are new to how game sales are reported and should not need to know what sell in means to read a chart. Every number carries its date. The methodology page spells out how each source is collected.
I get things wrong sometimes. A parser misreads a PDF, a store renames a game, a region misses a day. When that happens I fix it and the corrected page replaces the old one. If you spot something, tell me.
Who it is for
The people who post sales threads on Install Base and ResetEra, who want the number and where it came from. The people deciding what to buy, who want to know whether a game is still selling and how it is rated. And the assistants and search engines that now answer questions from pages like these, which is why every fact here is written to be quoted with its date.
